Preface
Undoubtedly, God has blessed and protected me throughout my life. Even with eyes filled with tears of gratitude, I still cannot express what is in my heart and the indebtedness to His love and grace. About fifteen years ago, when I left my full-time ministry, I already felt I should write a memoir to record God’s blessings and guidance in my life. Several pastors who had heard my testimony encouraged me to start writing as soon as possible. However, I was hesitant to start, because my wife had rightly reminded me of the danger of spiritual pride. As I did not want to be misunderstood that I wanted to glorify myself, I hesitated. Besides, my Chinese standard is not high and I did not have enough time, so I casted the idea out of my mind. As time passed, more brothers and sisters urged me to pick up my pen, put words on paper and write my memoir. Even my children encouraged me to do it. A few years ago, I had a lot of time at home with the sudden onset of COVID-19. Reflecting on the past and counting God’s blessings, His gracious acts were replayed in my mind one scene after another. I realised that I should no longer put off writing the memoir, because my memory was slowly failing, and if I did not start writing, I might lose the opportunity. Just when I was worrying about how to relate my life story in Chinese, my good
friend Pastor Zion Li, the Christian Chinese Library’s director, brought his co-worker Sister Catherine to visit me. She was willing to listen to my story and be the scribe of my memoir, which undoubtedly solved my biggest difficulty. I was filled with joy and thanked God for His provision, and I no longer had any excuse for delay. So, I accepted the sister’s interview and fully stated how God saved me, chose me, tempered me, used me, and blessed me. I wished to use my experience to witness an abundant life, God’s guidance, and peace and joy in my heart. Blessed are the children of God! As my Chinese memoir in the form of hard copies and eBooks was so well received, I was encouraged to publish my book in English for my English-speaking brothers and sisters. This time, having no excuse, I took up my pen to write my biography in English. In doing so, I feel like talking to my friends more directly and our old days came back to my mind. I have also included some additional stories of my life, which may be of interest to you. May our Lord bless you all as he has blessed me.
